Meet the Team

Abundance has built a hugely experienced and passionate team which brings together leading expertise in technology, renewables, financial analysis and regulation. The team is led by Abundance's three founders.

Energy Projects

  • Nick Berkeley

Nick has a keen interest in both finance (as part of a broader interest in trying to understand how the world works) and sustainability. With 13 years' experience in finance law (with Allen & Overy and Allens Linklaters), structured finance execution and, most recently, project finance loan syndication (with ANZ Bank in Sydney), Nick returned to the UK in 2013 and joined Abundance to build upon his legal and finance skills in a more sustainable direction.

  • Grace Buchanan

Grace gained a First Class degree in Geography at the University of Oxford before joining the M&A team at ABN Amro (later RBS), focussing on infrastructure and utilities. Whilst there she was involved in the sale of wind farms and became interested in renewable energy, having always believed in the need for sustainable development. After 4 years in the City, Grace wanted to direct her financial skills into providing sustainable energy solutions so she moved on to study Global Energy and Climate Policy at SOAS before joining the projects team at Abundance in 2013.

  • Simon Minnett

Simon has been in the energy field for the over 25 years and is one of Europe's foremost experts on renewable energy, CHP and energy efficiency policy and deployment. He has led several businesses in the energy sector but most recently he founded Challoch Energy, a consultancy firm in the energy efficiency, cogeneration and renewables sector. Simon acts as an independent technical expert and advises Abundance on project viability.

  • Tom Harwood

Tom graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a First Class Masters degree in Economics. After completing work in environmental consultancy and social investment, he looked for a role that combined his passion for the environment with innovative new finance, and joined Abundance in 2012. Tom manages the operations side of Abundance, and likes to spend his spare time as a season ticket holder at the Arsenal.

  • Simeon Gavalyugov

Back in 2008, before coming to study in the UK, Simeon was only a step away from becoming a professional football player. However he decided to pursue his passion for Maths instead and three years later obtained a First Class degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Queen Mary, University of London. Simeon joined Abundance as an intern but his role gradually expanded and he currently supports both the Operations and Technology teams.

  • Dan Mc Aleese

Dan is our Compliance and Money Laundering Officer, who ensures we operate at all times within the rules of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Dan has served as a Senior Policy Adviser at the precursor to the FCA, and has headed up compliance departments at several leading city firms. In recent years, he built and was a Board Member of Complinet Ltd; the world's largest and most successful online compliance information and service provider. You'll also find him every year in a field at Glastonbury.

  • Matt Reeves

Matt is an experienced marketing manager with over 6 years' experience in both the renewable energy and financial services sectors (with Good Energy and AXA Group respectively). He also holds an MSc in Renewable Energy and Architecture from the Centre for Alternative Technology, and is genuinely passionate in working for brands that are helping move us towards a more ethical and sustainable future. He uses this experience to manage Abundance's marketing communications output.

  • Conor Bishop

Conor received an MSc in Renewable Energy from the University of Reading in 2010 and jumped straight into the renewable energy industry, spending 2 years at Engensa, one of the first companies to offer free solar panels to homeowners. It was here that he first became interested in the financing of renewable energy projects. Outside Abundance Conor is usually planning an overly energetic trip, his next being to kayak the English Channel.

  • Karina Sidenius

Karina graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2013 with a degree in History. While studying she developed a keen interest in climate change and renewable energy, choosing to study the history of carbon taxes in Denmark and their effect on renewable energy investment and CO2 emissions. She joined Abundance in November 2013 as an intern and is now part of the Marketing team, focusing on social media marketing and content.

  • Jim Le Fevre

Jim is a BAFTA and British Animation Award winning Animation Director with heaps of experience. He is an expert in narrative and experimental filmmaking, pushing the art of the possible by using self styled experimental techniques such as the Phonotrope and Finger Theatre. Abundance has allowed him to integrate everything he loves about the illustrated and moving image – the creation of quiet and charming worlds and the joyful surprise of discovery – all without the nonsense of massive budgets and armies of middle management.

  • Pat Farr

Holding an MEng in Computing from Imperial College Longon, Pat is an experienced software engineer and technology lead with over 8 years' experience in the IT industry. Before joining Abundance in 2010, he delivered enterprise software and digital campaigns for a wide range of organisations including investment banks (BarCap), major publishers (Guardian), global NGOs (Oxfam) and local government. He now leads Abundance's agile technology team, and in his spare time can be found watching Norwich City and planning overseas angling trips.

  • Dan Hardiker

Dan delivers the powerhouse engine of the Abundance technology platform. With over 15 years' experience producing commercial back-end systems for banks, government and internet service providers, Dan is well qualified to deliver the secure, robust and scalable infrastructure required by a financial provider in the modern world. When Dan is not coding he can be found organising (and DJ'ing at) Java conferences around the world, where his party trick is having the audience throw him technical conundrums to solve live on stage. Challenge him if you dare!

  • Simon Haighton-Williams

Simon is an Internet Security and open source expert with over 10 years' experience at CTO level, having led the development, deployment and maintenance of numerous large-scale web systems for UK Government and leading financial services companies including Barclaycard. Between tending his bee hives and occasional diving trips, Simon advises Abundance on the security, architecture and management of its cutting edge technology platform.

  • Ales Mihelcic

Ales joined Abundance as software engineer from his native Slovenia in 2013, and has dived head first into improving and expanding the Abundance technology platform. He has full stack experience of developing integrated solutions across Android, Linux and Windows systems, and has been responsible for server administration and the development of multi-threaded communications and Business Intelligence projects in several countries. While he's not knee deep in code you will find Ales tearing up London's salsa dancing scene.
